While there are distinctions among digital project vs product vs program managers, they all have one thing in common: delivering tech in the desired time frame and within the desired budget. I love building cool tech to help people – tech that could even change the world. Everything that I've worked on sought to address a problem, be it in what classes someone should enroll, the chemical mechanisms behind explosives, or paying farmers for practicing sustainable agriculture.

During our time together at Pixo, Sam was nothing short of extraordinary. With a laser-focused approach and a sharp intellect, she shaped the direction of our clients' products with precision and insight. Her Chemistry PhD and product management skills came together in a unique blend of analytical brilliance and practical execution. Sam consistently tackled challenges head-on, providing clear, effective solutions that advanced our projects while always keeping an eye on the client’s vision. She expertly balanced scope, timelines, and resources, while always setting us up for future wins with the client(s). Her dedication, clarity, and relentless drive became the norm.

I had the fortunate experience of being able to work with Sam for almost 4 years at Indigo Ag. Sam was instrumental in helping various teams organize to deliver on a platform that produced verified agronomy-based carbon credits at scale for the first time in the world. She came into the organization at a time when we were having difficulty moving the data verification effort forward, and Sam facilitated the necessary communication to establish cross-team cohesion. Sam absorbed the scientifically rigorous Climate Action Reserve Soil Enrichment Protocol and translated it into engineering requirements that could be consumed by the development teams. She both product and project managed multiple scientifically and technically complex projects in parallel, ensuring that all key stakeholders across the organization remained informed and understood expectations around milestones, requirements, and the associated timelines, all the while cross-checking with the individual teams to ensure their project deliverables would ultimately fit together as expected.

I have known Dr. Sam for years, and she has been one of the most effective project managers I have ever had in 11 years as a software engineer. Sam's approach to every project is analytical, methodical, thoughtful, and organized. Her experience makes it easy to identify and help remove blockers, have difficult conversations that help the project and team health, and keep us on track with timeline and budget. She is a no-nonsense go-getter that you know you can rely on. She's also a caring individual who is great at supporting her teammates and making sure everyone is getting what they need to be their best selves. I feel so lucky to have had her at the helm of the ship, especially when navigating difficult projects and personalities.
Always having an eye on sustainability, the Carbon by Indigo program was proving ownerous for new growers, so Source by Indigo was formed, and I was the leading product manager for this product suite. Growers could now participate in new, so-called "Scope 3" programs that enabled them to earn premiums for sustainable commodities and the resulting consumer brands to make sustainable product claims. In this director-level role, I scaled Indigo's existing Scope 3 rice pilots and established new Scope 3 programs for corn, soy, wheat, and cotton from the ground up, which included end-to-end data collection, QA/QC, and quantification.
I started at Indigo as part of the group who would build the first-ever platform to quantify and generate carbon credits at scale – at the scale needed to combat climate change. In the beginning, I was the only product manager on the backend, focusing on data models, QA/QC, and quantification. In Jun 2022, as a critical component to Indigo's success, I was asked to attend the public announcement of our first "carbon crop," held at the Chicago Stock Exchange. (See photo at left.) In that inaugural year, the Carbon by Indigo program generated, verified, and sold 20,000 credits sequestered by 175 growers to 17 buyers.
During my time at Pixo, a tech consulting firm, I worked with many clients, from developing new to supporting existing products. At any one time, I had 4-8 projects to manage, and I meet weekly with clients to ensure that we were delivering on time and on budget. Pixo also has a affinity for community outreach and often had booths and tables at local events. As shown in the photo, one such community event involved an artistic interpretation of the demographic variability of our area.
Toward the end of my time with Agrible, I transitioned from Director of R&D to Director of Program Management. Instead of focusing on day-to-day development and release, I was taking a look at the entire product calendar, understanding how different programs interplayed with one another and with development. During this time, I worked with people from all across the company, ensuring that we had a complete view of what we needed and when we needed it. Additionally, I served as project manager for high-profile projects and managed top-level client relationships and expectations.

What is a Product Owner? Product owners have a unique and demanding role on agile teams. A product owner decides what the team will create next to deliver more value to the customer. As Certified Scrum Product Owners (CSPOs), we learn the framework, principles, and values that make scrum work, plus key skills and tools that we need to be effective. We know how to juggle multiple stakeholders’ needs, have hands-on practice creating product visions, and learn new ways to get to know our customers so that we can choose the right next piece of value to bring to market for them.
